So, I haven’t been in France long, and I’m slowly building friendships with a couple of guys. I really value these friendships because there aren’t many young people where I live, and it’s nice to be around people my age. However, I haven’t come out to these friends yet, and it prevents me from being myself around them, and from having read conversations with them. On top of it all, I find them attractive. This just complicates things because, for one guy, he has a girlfriend, for the other, he sends me mixed messages, and all in all I have no idea how to start things with anyone after ending a four year relationship. Most importantly, I want to hang out with these guys and have fun being me; the only problem is I have to find out how to be me in a foreign language, and figuring out if it’s okay to tell them I’m gay. Is homophobia really common in rural areas like where I am? I don’t think that they would react terribly, I just think that they would look at me differently and it would be awkward. I dunno.
